perhaps i've been oblivious all along, or my non-existence in society other than school these past few years is to blame, but i saw an insurgence of people who... hate valentine's day this year. yes, people who complain on and on why february 14th is so special, and how they do not wish to participate in any of the lovey-dovey things people do on val's day. some of these people are, yes, single, and some are dating.
well, yes, it's true. valentine's day is not an official holiday, and why show extra care and affection on this one day only. valentine's day should be everyday! but a tradition is a tradition, and why complain to the whole world about it? there are tons of other weird traditions we have in this world that people apparently do not care enough to even complain about. here are some reasons why i think people would hate val's day:
- "oh man! i have to spend my precious cash on EXPENSIVE bouquet of flowers, chocolates, gifts, not to mention the dinner at the expensive restaurant... any other day, dinner at a local diner would suffice for her. no flowers, no chocolates, no gifts, nothing."
- "damn, i have no dates for V day! any other day, this would not have mattered, but it's a BIG deal that i'm sad and lonely, having dinner at home on this "lovey-dovey" day!"
oh, maybe that's why we have valentine's day. so people who are usually insensitive enough to make your special someone feel special, feel obligated to do so. perhaps that's the purpose of it all.
